Will This Race Be Awesome?
The race director and his wife have been active in the racing community for years at both the top levels....and the mid pack levels. This ensures you that they have worked diligiently to make sure that this race is full of awesomeness for all levels of runners. So, really it should be named "The Awesome Newburyport Half Marathon", but we'll let you decide. In fact it is so awesome, we are totally expecting the dictionary to change the definition of "Awesome" to "the newburyport half marathon" in their next edition. So, ya. This is an awesome race.
Where should I stay if I need a hotel?
The Amesbury Fairfield Marriott Inn is granting us some special pricing for all registrants. After you register, please contact the Fairfield Inn @1 978-388-3400 because they are having a special for Green Stride participants at a rate of $99/night. Mention "Green Stride" and your registration confirmation number for the discount! They have a pool, free wifi and a free breakfast.....so, ya, this is a good deal.
Visit them @ The Marriott Fairfiled Inn in Amesbury, Mass HERE.
Are dogs allowed in the race?
We like dogs, but unless they are a Certified Seeing Eye Dog for a legally blind person running, then please leave them at home where they will be safe.
Can I get a refund if I do not run?
What is the VIP Package?
So what do you get for the extra $60 bucks?
1) Priority Parking. We are estimating that there will be 3,000-5,000 runners in this race. Wouldn't it be nice to simply drive up and not worry about having to park in the next county?
2) Priority "comfort stations" aka: Bathrooms. Well, if you have ever been in a race and had to go at the last minute....you would have paid ALOT more than $60. to have immediate and clean access, right?
3) Private food tent. You will not have a 1000 people breathing and picking through the food before you get to it. The race director is hand selecting the food that will be there. You will be hungry after 13.1....let's make sure you eat well....oh ya, & we will GUARANTEE, any VIP will not run out of beer (as long as you are behaving, right?)
So, you'll eat better, "relax" better, park closer, look cooler....and be greener. why not, right? VIP registration will be live soon.
How do I volunteer?
We could use as many volunteers as possible. Old, young, runner's, non runner's etc etc, are all welcome. We have sit down jobs that require a well organized person as well as high energy, standing jobs. Even if you cannot be there the whole time, WE CAN USE YOU! Please contact chris@sub5racing.com if you can volunteer. Just title your email "Newburyport Volunteer Request".
Thanks!
When & Where can I pick up my race packet?
Race packets can be picked up on Friday the 21st from 4-7pm at the Greater Boston Running Co. at 27 Water St. in Newburyport, on Saturday, the 22nd from 10-5 at the same location and at race headquarters (North End Boat Club on Manson Ave.) on the 23rd from 7am - 9:30am.
Where's the BEER going to be!?!
We will funnel you right from the finish line to the after race snack bar tent.....which happens to be the same tent where the beer is housed. I would recommend getting some food first. If you still cannot locate the beer after eating....then you probably shouldn't be drinking.
Can I be guaranteed my t-shirt size?
No. Even though we ask you your size, it still isn't guaranteed. This is because we have to order the shirts @ a month ahead of time and have to guess the sizes we will need for those that haven't registered by the time we place our order. People are also allowed to try the shirts on and trade if they do not fit right. So someone that orders a medium may actually take a large.
FOR YOUR BEST CHANCE OF GETTING YOUR SIZE, please come pick up your packet as early as possible. This helps both us and you.
Will I need my ID to get into the beer tent?
If you look even remotely like you are under 30, you will be required to show an ID. This is to make sure that everyone is safe & that we are in concordance with Newburyport Police directives. They will be there to enforce these rules. This also guarantees that everyone will have a great time.
What will the weather be like?
October in New England, particularly on the North Shore, is absolutely perfect weather for running.....usually. Typically the temperature range will be 40-50F. It can rain...and even have a slight possibility of snowing. Expect @ 40-50F and hope for sunny skies!!
What are the RELAY transition details?
Transition 1 is at Maudsley Park entrance.
Transition 2 (also 2 person transition) is at the corner of browns lane and garden.
Transition 3 is on Toppan's just as the high school property starts.
There will be a shuttle leaving at 9:15 and 9:45 to drop runners off, then it will rotate through the whole race picking up runners.
Unless you have special permission from Chris, please do not drive and park at the transitions. It is too dangerous with 1000+ runners.
Where can I park?
Parking is allowed at the parking lots indicated on the image. Click on the image for a printable .pdf.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A FENCE BETWEEN THE PARKING LOT AND BOAT CLUB. You will have to walk out to the street to get to the boat club. Please plan a few extra minutes for this. and no, you cannot climb the over the fence...it is 6ft+ high and made of steel.

Can I make race day changes to my registration?
You may change your t-shirt size (if there are sizes available), however that is about it. If you are thinking you want to change to a relay or trade your bib to someone else, IT MUST BE DONE BEFORE OCTOBER 12TH.
Are there "relief stations" on the course?
There will be 2 relief stations posted at the 2 person relay transition point. This is at the intersection of Brown Lane & Garden St.
Where are the water stops?
To comply with USATF regulations, we will have water stations every 2 miles...ish. There will be Energy Packets right before mile 8. There will be electrolyte drinks at the mile 4 stop.
